Shoeing
Whether you own a horse or have one on loan it's your responsibility as the horses career to keep the horse well looked after. This includes care of the hooves.

There are many thing we as owners can do to help with keeping our horses hooves healthy.

Regularly picking out the feet.
This will remove all debris from the hooves, lowering the risk of the horse having anything sharp in his foot to pierce the sole.

Keep the stable clean
A clean dry bed will help to maintain a dry foot reducing the risk of getting infection such as thrush in the frog.

Regular visits from your farrier
Plan to hire a farrier approx every 4-6 weeks for routine hoof trimming or shoeing
Depending upon the work the horse is doing, the time between visits will vary. For example if you do a lot of road work then this will wear the shoes down quicker than a pony which occasionally is ridden on the road.

Supplements
If your horse has cracking dry hoof walls then it's advisable to use additives in the feed such as farriers formula or a paste to put onto the horses hooves such as hoof moist. Your farrier will advise you on what product to use on your horse.
