Riding on the road part two

Before venturing out on the road you should know the meaning of road signs, if you go to our fun and games page, we have a multiple choice road sign questionnaire for you to test your knowledge, why not get a family member to try the questionnaire too.
All answers to the questions are given.

The bhs and pony club have a riding and road safety exam.

Always remember to be courteous to road users, always thank other road users, ask before overtaking a pedestrian and always pass at a walk.
when riding on the road make sure you are constantly aware of the other road users around you. Infront, behind and to the side.
When you are about to make a turn in the road follow this simple procedure:
Observe look all around you for hazards, signal being positive holding your arm straight at shoulder height, Obeserve again a last life saver check, manoeuvre being positive with your riding moving forwards , then re-observe checking where the traffic is.

Riders should keep to the left hand side of the road even when signaling and turning right as it's dangerous to position yourself and your horse between two lines of cars as your horse can panic.

Using a roundabout it's advisable to signal right and keep to the left or outside of the roundabout until you wish to leave and signal left.
