| Signs of good Health |
|
As a owner you should be able to tell when your horse is feeling
under the weather, so every time you see him take time to study his habbits
both in and out of the stable.
You also need to have a basic understanding of good health in your horse,
this will help you to know when your horse is showing signs of bad health. |
- Horse should be bright and alert.
- Listerning to what is happening around him.
- Interested in his food.
- Smooth Coat.
- Natural Sheen.
- When skin is pinched, the coat should spring back quickly and lie
flat.
- Eyes should be bright, wide open and alert.
- The lining of the eyes, nose and gums should be a salmon pink in colour.
- Urine should be nearly colourless.
- Droppings should be moist, forming a pile.
- Limbs should be free from swellings.
- Horse should be happy to stand up on all four legs.(horses will rest
the hind legs but in good health never the front)
- Feet should be cool to the touch.
- The frog should be rubbery and free from discharge and smell.
- Temperature, Pulse and Respiration . When you get your horse if you
have a record of these it will allow you to spot potential problems
early.
Pulse Rate - 35 - 40 Breath per Minuite
Tempertautre - 99.5 - 100.5 Degrees Fahrenheit or 38 Degrees Centigrade.(Adult
Horse)
Respiration Rate - At rest 8-12 Breaths per Minuite.
